How do you clamp a wire rope

The first rope clamp is attached close to the thimble. The distance between the other wire rope clamps should be between 1.5 and 3xt (t = clamp width, see illustration). The clamping bracket must always be placed on the unloaded end of the rope. Please refer to the table for the number of terminals and the required tightening torque.

The tightening torque should be checked during assembly, shortly before the first use and 1 hour and 3 hours afterwards. The further checks should take place at the following times:

  • 1 day after first use
  • 1 week after first use
  • 1 month after first use
  • 6 months after the first commissioning
  • every 6 months thereafter
These details are guidelines. If necessary, the test frequency must be adapted to the conditions of use and the ropes used.

The specified tightening torques apply to greased threads and nut contact surfaces. Please continue to observe the rules and guidelines applicable to your application. DIN 18800-1 "Steel structures, dimensioning and construction" requires, for example, an increased number of rope clamps by 1.
