What is Google Meet?

Google makes professional-quality video conferencing accessible to everyone. Anyone with a Google account can now create a video conference with up to 100 participants. The maximum duration of the conference is limited to 60 minutes.

Companies, educational institutions and other organizations can take advantage of premium functions, including meetings with up to 250 internal or external participants and live streaming for a maximum of 100,000 viewers within a domain.

How to start a video conference

Create a new video conference

To create a new video conference, log into your existing Google account. If you don't have a Google account, you can create one for free.

Invite others to a video conference

Send a link or meeting code to everyone who should take part in the video conference. The free Google Meet version requires attendees to sign in with an existing Google account or create a new one.

Participate in a video conference

Tap the meeting link on the invitation or enter the meeting code the organizer sent you here. You can also dial in by phone using the dial-in number and PIN from the invitation.

How to use the free features of Google Meet

With Google Meet, free video conferences with up to 100 participants are possible. In addition, Google Meet protects your data and your privacy through measures, among other things, to protect against hacking.

Any number of video conferences

Stay in contact with colleagues, customers, classmates or fellow students as often as you want.

You can invite up to 100 participants to your video conferences. If you use the free version of Google Meet, all attendees must sign in with a Google account for security reasons.

Automatic subtitles in video conferences

Now it's even easier to follow video conferences thanks to automatic subtitles based on Google's speech recognition technology. To switch on the subtitles, simply click on the three-dot menu and activate the function (only available in English).

After clicking the meeting code or link, you can adjust the video and audio settings and see how attendees see you on the webcam. You will also see a preview of the participants in the video conference who have already joined.

Customizable layouts and screen settings

Google Meet automatically changes the layout of a video conference to show the most active content and participants.

If you'd like to change the layout, click the three-dot menu in the bottom corner of the Meet screen.

Chat messages can make video conferences even more interactive. Would you like to exchange files, links or messages with the participants? Then just click on the chat icon. Chat messages can only be sent during a video conference.

Integration with Google and Microsoft Office apps

You can join video conferencing directly from Gmail or Google Calendar.

Microsoft Office users can also be invited and see the video conference in their Microsoft® Outlook® calendar.

Various anti-abuse measures are used in Google Meet to ensure secure video conferencing. This includes features to protect against hacking and controls for secure conferencing. Two-step verification including security keys is also supported.
