Was Rio 2016 better than London 2012

Unified Sports® running project "It works better together"

The Unified Sports® running project "It's better together" is a cooperation between Special Olympics Germany (SOD) and Coca-Cola Germany. The pilot project covered a period of three years in the pilot phase and was supported by Lift with a sum of 250,000 euros during this time. The project was continued after the pilot phase. The joint initiative is intended to introduce the core idea of Unified Sports®, which SOD is already successfully implementing in many team sports, now also in athletics, specifically in running. It is primarily about the social interaction between people with and without disabilities with the aim of developing mutual acceptance. The focus is not on the performance concept, but on togetherness, fun and fair dealings. The aim of the project is to get as many people as possible with and without intellectual disabilities excited about running together in the long term. The running duos or running groups, which meanwhile total more than 1,000 runners, should train together regularly and take part in competitions and fun runs. In 2017/2018, the running groups and duos took part in around 130 runs. The project is implemented in seven project federal states (Berlin / Brandenburg, Hamburg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein) and each is managed by a regional project coordinator. Information and contacts to the running groups and projects in the individual regional associations can be found here:
